How to take a screenshot on a Mac?

Taking a screenshot on a Mac is super easy! Here are the different methods you can use:

  1. Using Keyboard Shortcuts:
    • Entire Screen: Press Shift-Command-3. This will capture your entire screen and save it as a PNG file on your desktop.
    • Selected Area: Press Shift-Command-4. Your cursor will turn into a crosshair. Click and drag to select the area you want to capture. Release the mouse button to save the screenshot.
    • Specific Window: Press Shift-Command-4, then press the Spacebar. Your cursor will turn into a camera icon. Hover over the window you want to capture and click. The screenshot will be saved to your desktop.
  2. Using the Screenshot Tool:
    • Open Launchpad and find the Screenshot app.
    • You’ll see a panel with different options:
      • Capture the entire screen: Click the first button.
      • Capture a window: Click the second button, then click the window you want to capture.
      • Capture a portion of the screen: Click the third button, then drag the frame to select the area you want to capture.
      • Record the entire screen: Click the fourth button.
      • Record a portion of the screen: Click the fifth button, then drag the frame to select the area you want to record.
    • You can also use the Options button to set a timer delay, show the mouse pointer, and choose where to save the screenshot.
  3. Using the Touch Bar (for MacBook Pro users):
    • Press Command-Shift-6 to capture a screenshot of your Touch Bar.

Bonus Tip: If you want to copy a screenshot to your clipboard instead of saving it to your desktop, hold down the Control key while pressing the other keys. For example, to copy the entire screen, press Shift-Command-Control-3.
